Supergiant Games’ sequel to the 2020 roguelike hit Hadeshas entered Early Access on PC in May 2024. Since then, it’s won Best Early Access Game at the Dope Indie Game Awards and delivered major updates, including one that added a “final confrontation” boss fight. The game’s already bigger than its predecessor, but with more updates on the way, many fans are still asking the big question: when is the full Hades 2 release date?

Hades 2 Early Access

Compared to the first Hades, which stayed in Early Access for nearly two years, Hades 2 is moving at a quicker pace. As of May 2025, it’s been one year since its Early Access debut – a shorter timeline, likely thanks to Supergiant having an established foundation to build on.

Supergiant has refined its development pipeline, launching Hades 2 in a far more complete state than Hades was at its Early Access start. The game already features multiple regions, weapons, boons, storylines, and quality-of-life improvements.

The Olympic Update and More on the Way

The game’s first major content drop – the Olympic Update – introduced a new weapon, region, boss, gods, boons, voiced lines, and music. It expanded narrative threads across the Surface, Underworld, and Crossroads, making the Early Access version feel more like a full game.

Supergiant has confirmed that at least two more major updates are coming in 2025. The next, expected in early 2025, will add another Surface region. Once that’s in place, the core structure of the game will be considered complete, paving the way for the 1.0 launch.

Hades 2 Release Date: Timed Switch 2 Exclusive

At the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, it was confirmed that Hades 2 will launch on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Even more surprising? It’ll be a Nintendo console exclusive at launch. That means it’ll hit PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, with PlayStation and Xbox likely following in 2026, much like the first game did.

PC players need not worry. Hades 2 began its Early Access journey on PC, and the full release will also be available there the moment version 1.0 drops.

A New Hero, a New Mission

Unlike the original, which followed Zagreus’ journey to escape the Underworld, Hades 2 features a new protagonist: Melinoë, the Princess of the Underworld. Her mission is to take down Chronos, the Titan of Time, and free her family from imprisonment. It’s a fresh take on the rogue-like formula, with a new tone, new gods, and a much deeper lore.

When is the full Hades 2 Release Date?

We can’t tell yet when the full Hades 2 release date is, but based on the update cadence, a mid to late 2025 launch seems likely. That said, there’s always a chance Supergiant pulls another fast one. The Early Access release dropped just a week after the beta ended, with no warning. Could a surprise 1.0 happen? Maybe. Hades 2 was already massive at launch, and while PC players have been feasting, it’s a bit of a shame for console players still stuck waiting.
